Returning to work after a break to raise children could be seen not as a daunting challenge, but as an opportunity. A chance to figure out what you really want to do.
Huh. Never really thought of it that way. But that’s the word from career coach and Comeback Moms founder Mary Kaye. It’s her belief that this is a great time to really reflect on who you are and what makes you happy. Perhaps we jumped on a career trajectory in college without really knowing what we wanted to do, and then stayed on course until our kids “allowed” us to jump off. Maybe we were burned out by our previous careers anyway.
So before jumping back in, Kaye advises doing a lot of prep work. Forget writing your resume or getting a LinkedIn profile. Those come later. The first step involves a lot of self-reflection. And it’s work! But the results could be a job that you find truly fulfilling.
